New Kinze planters provide grower with more efficiency

Jul 06, 2023

Farmer Iron: Kinze’s newest planters have many features to help farmers more efficiently plant all kinds of crops in many types of conditions.

August 30, 2023

From the beginning, Kinze Manufacturing has strived to produce equipment with a customer focus and has made changes to the current machines based on input from those running the machines. This is also the case for the Kinze 5000 Series high-tech planters, which will be available for the 2024 season.

“We are always looking at how we can make things easier for the farmer,” Brad Niensteadt, Kinze senior product specialist, says. “We want to help them be more efficient and get more done with less. Longevity, durability, and field performance are important and that’s what we focused on with the 5000 Series high-tech planters.”

EASIER PLANTING: The new Kinze planter is demonstrated at a recent field day. Their new planters have features to help make planting easy and efficient.

The 5900 planter replaces the 4905, and the 5700 planter replaces the 4705. The two machines have several similarities yet have a few differences. Both are three-section front-fold models packed with standard features that boost productivity and minimize daily maintenance, with a full array of options to meet diverse farming requirements.

Both planters feature:

Kinze Blue Drive electric drive

easy-to-use Blue Vantage display that controls all transport, planting, fertilizer, camera and data functions

easy ability to upgrade from Kinze’s True Speed high-speed seed meter to True Rate vacuum meter

True Depth hydraulic downforce for optimum and consistent seed depth

sleek-style cast row unit

air-adjustable closing wheels for optimum seed-to-soil contact

high transport clearance

timesaving 400-to 750-gallon liquid fertilizer capacity, depending on planter configuration

one camera standard; three additional cameras optional

front-end design allowing the use of multiple residue options

Niensteadt says there are many maintenance and durability benefits to the new planters to make them more efficient for farmers. “One of the big changes is the shimless and greaseless fiber bushings. This has over 85 grease zerks off the planter. This helps save time and extends the life of the planter,” he says. “You don’t realize how much time it takes to grease the planter, and taking that part away helps make the days get going faster.”

Both these planters also feature greaseless gauge-wheel arms; scraper-equipped, shimless adjustable spoke gauge wheels, maintenance-free double bushing parallel arms; a durable outside disk opener-scraper; and drastically reduced maintenance of three-fold marker arms, with pivots equipped with greaseless fiber bushings.

The 5900 planters will be available in 24-row, 16-row and 12-row, all with 30-inch rows to satisfy the needs of many different-sized operations. The 5700 has other options when it comes to size and row spacing, with a 36-row planter with 20-inch rows, or the 24-row version comes in 30-inch rows, or the 20-inch narrow-row option. Niensteadt says this gives all the options available for each kind of farmer.

“The 5700 24R20 planter will also feature a new 40-foot, three-section frame configuration,” he says. This frame offers front-mounted, high-flotation tires for reduced soil compaction and improved residue flow; a rear-facing transport camera; work lights for optimum performance and safety, durability and low maintenance.

These advancements in technology provides 30 degrees of wing flex, featuring high operating and transport clearance along with generous bulk seed and fertilizers capacities, making this planter best for productive planting in high-residue conditions, rolling terrain and narrower terraces.

The Blue Vantage system is the display used with Kinze’s Blue Drive electric meter drive. It is an easy-to-use planter display, and the 2024 feature provides remote support to get help when in the field. The customizable screen helps each farmer run their Kinze planter to the best of their ability.
